As every parent knows, time flies with your children. Seriously, it does not feel like eleven years have gone by since my Precious made me a mother. Since I heard my Sweetie declare, “It’s a girl!” and I cried because I really had wanted a girl first. Since I held her for the first time in my c-section fogginess. Since I stared at her fingers and toes and thanked God for such an amazing gift. Since I watched My Sweetie hold her and talk to her sweetly. Since I wanted to shout to the world, “Isn’t she beautiful!!!?!!”
But… it *has* been eleven years. Eleven years today.
She’s had quite the day:
For breakfast we surprised her with one of her favorite things: cinnamon rolls (not the all natural kind).
For her birthday ‘party’, she had asked to go to ice skating for the first time with her family and a ‘couple’ of friends. So, we loaded our family up about 10am (and added 2 homeschool girl friends to the mix) and drove to the ‘big city’ to hit the ice. I was wondering how she would fare on the ice: if it would be a hit or she would hit it! But she did just great! She was all smiles. Not everyone took to it immediatly. The Boy and Princess stayed near the wall most of the time. Queen Bee (#4) was hilarious! She loved ‘skaping’ with Daddy, but we made her get off after about 10 minutes since she was mostly falling and Daddy was mostly pulling. She pulled him down one time and it was scary.
After a two hours, Daddy surprised everyone by taking us to Marble Slab. Seems the ice skating rink admission tag gives you Buy 1, Get 1 Free at Marble Slab. And Daddy felt generous (I almost brought up how much he gives me a hassle for the Buy 1, Get 1 Free that I fell for when we went to adopt a kitten at the pound… but I think my choice has ended up costing us quite a bit more, so I kept silent. Plus… well, we all know how I feel about ice cream!). They were all like kids… well, like kids in an ice cream store that has candy too! They loved picking their flavors AND their mix-in. Super cool.
Did I mention lunch? No? Well, that’s because at this point we hadn’t served any. So… on the hour drive home, they eventually felt the need for something other than sugar. So we served all natural sandwhiches.
Upon arrival at home… There was a 10 minute Wii break before more food. Precious had requested banana bread with cream cheese icing… so we had that AND ice cream! PL, Mimi and Aunt R joined us for the delicious treats.
My kids were content at this point (inherited sugar addiction and all), but the 2 sweet friends kindly asked, “Are we eating dinner here or at AWANAs?” So… we fed them some tuna. ƒÅ“ (The all natural kind.)
Now they are all at AWANAs. I’m sure Precious will get some kind of sugar there.
All in all, I think she’s had a good day. And I’ve been so busy that I haven’t been sad to see her grow a year older. I think I’ll take eleven well. I make NO promises for 12. That’s too close to 13, thank you very much.
And today, eleven years after she entered my life, I still want to shout to the world, “Isn’t she beautiful!!!?!!!”
