She Came Bearing Curry Laden Gifts!

by GfG on July 26, 2008

My sweet, Jesus-lovin’ friend, Jan came to see me last night “just ‘cuz”. AND she brought me Indian food!! This was an act of love on her part in several ways: she had to drive in Friday evening traffic to the restaurant, waited til 5pm when it would open, discovered that location had closed, she then drove to the other location (still in Friday traffic), loaded up the to-go box with my faves, then drove over an hour to my home.
I just love Indian food, but I am surrounded with people who are not yet enlightened to its wonderfulness (remember, it’s my blog I can make up words). You may remember, though, that My Sweetie took me on my birthday as an act of love (prompted by a disappointing day in the NICU). Anyway… I savored every bite of spinach paneer, chicken tikka masala, and vegetable samosas (sopping every drip up with warm pan). I also savored the time with a friend who understands my current emotional state and loves me, prays for me, and desires to ‘hold my arms up’ while I am in this battle (see Exodus 17:12).

We ate and grinned happily at each other as we both enjoyed the fare (she’s a spinach paneer and rice gal since she is a celiac). We both truly love this kind of food, but I delight in it even more when eating it with a friend who appreciates it as much as I do. We were near giddy, I’d say. Ü

Then we squeezed in some heart-to-heart talks on the porch swing in between supervising the little ones. She even helped me tuck kiddos in and prayed with them. Lastly, we walked beneath the stars and prayed for each other. We gazed at the heavens and conversed with The One who made them. Approaching His Throne with confidence, seeking mercy and peace.

My love language was met in many ways last night, but the sweetest was the gift of praying with a sister in Christ, with our arms around each other, while in awe of God’s creation. Knowing that His love for us outreaches those innumerable stars.
Thank you, Jan.
Thank you, Lord.

Okay, that’s it. We are finding some way to have Indian food together next Spring. I need guidance. I wouldn’t know what to have, but it all sounds delicious.
