Campfire food.
Warm s’mores.
Campfire stories.
Warm sleeping bags.
Tonight is camp out for two of my girls. They’re in Unit 8. You might have heard. The same unit I worked in for my first summer as a counselor. That summer changed my life, but that’s another post. Camp out was always my favorite activity. Always. Mmmm…. the memories.
Tonight they baked hobo packs, roasted marshmallows, told tales, and enjoyed each others company. Now they are sleeping beneath the twinkling stars and the Hill Country night wind. I know because… ahem… well, you know… Camp thought it was prudent that I stop in to make sure all was well with Unit 8. And I happened to have my camera with me. And my hugging arms.
Both the girls wanted to have their photo taken with this sweet counselor, Hannah. Hannah lived on camp for several years of her childhood because her dad was the Program Director. She was one year old when I started. Whatever. Now she’s the counselor for my daughters. Sweet little circle.
I dug around in some boxes in storage in the dark… to try to find a snapshot of Unit 8 at camp out in 1990. No luck.
Oh, and all is well. In case you were wondering.
Little sister made a camp out of her own. No s’mores, fire or stars, but she’s happy.
All is well.
At campout. Mmmmm… more memories.

Any Human Birdfeeders, mud pits, or indian sightings?
Annette- it’s different! They don’t seem to get messy or do anything like that. It’s more chill. They come back to camp for breakfast , which is a real bummer in my opinion.
But the kids have a great time!
Gone are the good ‘ole days! Still, who can beat a Texas sky at night!?!
I remember AmuzingGrace working there after most of us were married and she had a hard time b/c of the changes. But the kids do still have a great time. Will Hannah be there for Day Camp? She looks like a counselor I would love
