Ok, everyone who participated in reading labels and tallying the amount of items you/your family ate with high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, and/or corn syrup solids for three days, post up! Put your tally in the comments section. I’ll have the random number generator pick the winner!
Ours is much higher than normal because camp started. ‘Nuff said. Oh, and… tomorrow you’ll see a little something that set us back quite a bit.
Assuming that every entree camp serves has HFCS in it, three days for us: 11 things. Ouch.
So… what did you learn?

We did well and had our power not gone out for a day, we would have been HFCS free, but seeing there was no power, Dearest got us some hoagies and Dr. Pepper. It is nice to see that my boys do view soda as a special treat because it is rare that they have it.
Oh, forgot to mention, I had never heard of King Corn until you mentioned it here. I looked it up on netflix and watched it. I did find it really interesting. I also really enjoyed Food Inc.
We started on Wed. and since I wasn’t sure of the rules and am still not, I counted each time and serving that had anything with corn in it. We also included Maltodextrin from our mayo (not buying that brand again) each time we used it.
Wed. – 7
Thursday – 11 due to hot dogs
Friday – 17 due to hot dogs
Saturday – 19 due to Birthday party
Sunday – 13 due to Arbys
Monday – 9 due to hamburger buns and mayo
If anyone has a good recipe for homemade burger buns I would like it. Considering I do watch for corn products in our food, I was a little discouraged. Convenience killed us this week.
I counted each time the whole family had something with HFCS or corn syrup solids. I didn’t count plain corn, but I don’t think we had any. Is plain corn, cornmeal, etc. bad? (…reading Martha’s post…) Anyway, we did quite well, had three of the above mentioned in our foods. Now, we only counted for three days—Sunday blew it for us!
