Dear Pigs

by GfG on September 28, 2010

Dear Pigs,

You are nasty creatures.  You are disgusting.  You are vile.

You eat anything and wallow in everything.   Including dead piggy friends and your own excrement.

That’s just gross.  Seriously.

You are constant gluttons that will over eat to the point of diluting your stomach acid, leaving your bodies (and later your meat) prone to bacteria, parasites, toxins and viruses.

God called you unclean in the Old Testament and I can clearly see why.

So… I won’t eat you.

Unless your thighs are wrapped around a stuffed jalapeno or your hocks are in my red beans and rice.  In that case, I can’t resist because you are simply the best.

Sincerely,

Grateful for Grace

Dear GfG,

I’m sorry you read some incorrect information on us. When cared for properly, we actually keep ourselves very clean. We only roll in the mud when our owner doesn’t keep us cool enough. At our house, we are all potty trained and keep our living area clean and free of that “stuff”. We know where to go and do our business in the right place because we like having a nice dry place to lay down.

Our owner feeds us a very balanced diet of foods that make a lean animal and keeps us healthy. He also provides us with all the clean water we want & need in a fountain. Each of us gets fresh water whenever we want it to go with the specially mixed food he gives us every day. Our food is customized to our age.

As babies, he lets us stay with our mom so we get the perfect start with nursing. Once we are weaned, he gives us special toddler food and checks us several times a day to make sure we are all learning to eat the grown-up food.

In the Bible, the animals were created by our great Creator to provide food and sustenance to man, made in God’s image. He is the One that made plants & animals to feed the people. I think that is great that He cares for you so much!

Romans 14:20 tells us that all food is clean but to just not eat that which could cause another one to stumble. I’m thankful we live under the new law and that Jesus was our perfect sacrifice!

Sincerely,
a properly raised pig

Dear Properly Raised Pig,

Oh, thank you for writing all the way from your sty!

First of all, I’m so glad to hear that your owner loves you and takes care of you. That’s so sweet for you. It’s sounds like you have a lovely life, much like the one I imagined for Wilbur.

Secondly and most importantly, I too am so grateful to have a loving Father who provided food for me. Thankfully, I’m on this side of the cross, where Jesus has paid the price and fulfilled the Law. My spiritual standing now has nothing to do with what I eat.

Finally, I believe the principles for which animals are clean and which are unclean still makes sense, health wise. These laws helped keep the nation of Israel healthy.

Just as I believe that other scavengers and/or bottom dwelling animals are not a good choice for food, due to the nature of their life and how their bodies work and how that life affects their meat, I do not think you are a good choice for food for humans.

I do think you’d probably make a tasty meal for a mountain lion or wolf. See! God provided food for all His creatures! Isn’t he thoughtful?

Oink and hugs,

Grateful for Grace

Perfect. Precisely why I don’t partake of the porcine.

Or bunnies, camels, owls, vultures, mice, ostrich, stingrays, sharks, lobsters, squid, lizards… but pass the grasshoppers :0) Just kidding… no grasshoppers either. But that’s my rule, not God’s.

Take a look on board Noah’s Ark. How many piggies made the trip? How many cows, sheep, oxen, or chickens? All we have to do is start looking at the lifespan of man after the flood – when God permitted him to eat flesh foods – clean flesh foods, not unclean. It starts dropping dramatically almost immediately.

God, the God that says He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, gave us guidelines. First He gave us a perfect diet in the garden, but we didn’t approve of it and begged for flesh. Then He gave us a new diet and we didn’t approve of that either. And look where our choices have gotten us. Cancer, clogged arteries, failing hearts, failing brains and all other sorts of diseases that can be traced back to our horrible diets.

Great post – keep preachin’ it. :0)

Ok, Autumn, only because I love YOU am I allowing a J.O. video on my blog! I disagree with his doctrine and his ministry, so I may end up deleting it. We’ll see…

Pushin’ the envelope, missy! ;-)

Looks like God *did* give him some wisdom about at least one thing. ;-)

J.O.=unclean :) . People who link to J.O.’s video possibly unclean too?

How does the jalapeno and red bens & rice make the pork more clean?

This post made me laugh. And the comments, how interesting!
I can understand your reasoning completely. I opt for the turkey bacon and rather have a turkey than ham at Christmas. But 2 words get me every time………pork skins. ‘Nuff said. : )
