Study Recommendation: Interactive History Books

by GfG on April 3, 2012

If you are planning to study the California Gold Rush, I have a book recommendation for you (actually, if you’re studying history at all, keep reading).  It was scheduled in our Tapestry of Grace unit and I found it during our library fiasco.  I liked it so much, I bought it after we used it.  It’s terrific!

Not only does it teach about all the hazards, hoopla, and hard times for the period, but it’s super fun.  It’s not at a difficult reading level either.

This book is Choose Your Own Adventure book style.  How fun is that?  (Raise your hand if you remember those!)

The California Gold Rush: An Interactive Adventure really helps students grasp life on the fields.  As I was writing up this post just on this one book because I loved it so much, I discovered there are more books in the same style with different topics!  It’s a whole series!

I’m super stoked because they have a War Between the States one (titled The Civil War, of course, silly fools) and a Wild West one, both topics we are hitting right now.  Wahoo!!

And I see some for next year when we study the 1900s.    :-)

These interactive boks cover plenty of topics, so check out the link to see if your unit of study is covered.  I have read only the Gold Rush one, but it was so super and seriously helped my kids imagine the time period.  I’m hopeful the others will do the same.

Check out this series: An Interactive History Adventure.  I”m pretty sure you won’t be disappointed.

Have you or your kids read any of these?

We had a similar book (not from the same series) on the Alamo this year. They kids really enjoyed it. You’re not helping me keep my curriculum budget to a minimum, so we can focus on technology purchases for next year, though.

Oh, there is one from the Alamo listed on the back of the book. The kids are trying to talk me into it. These 3 I just bought were not in the budget, either. I keep hoping the principal doesn’t notice. ;-)
Glad I could help you.
