God loves me.
That is a profound and amazing truth. Seriously.
God loves you.
That is a profound and amazing truth. Seriously.
God… the creator and sustainer of the universe. Perfection. Holy. He loves me.
Yet… I know I don’t bask in this stunning fact.
I’ve been operating out of a belief that talking about God’s love is either not all that necessary OR that talking about it too much is a bad idea because it will lead to lawlessness.
Those are big fat lies.
In the Bible, if something is mentioned once, we should listen. If it’s repeated several times, it’s emphasized. If it’s addressed hundreds of times, it’s pretty stinkin’ important.
I’ve been told God’s love is mentioned 123 times in the Psalms alone (I have not looked it up myself)*. I basic search tells me that his love is mentioned hundreds of times in Scripture. It’s clear God wants me and you to grasp the idea that he loves us. A lot.
Here’s where it gets crazy-
God loves me as with the same love as he loves Jesus. God loves me as much as he loves Christ. God loves me with the passion that he loves the Son.
I should be awed, humbled, and motivated by this doctrine of truth.
Fully grasping God’s love for me, which means fully grasping all he has done for me in his taking on flesh, his suffering, and his dying, should make me zealous! Zealous for him! Zealous for showing my love in return, my gratefulness, and my passion for sharing this news.
Never, could it lead to lawlessness.
Never, should it be under-emphasized.
It’s my goal to soak myself in this knowledge every day until my countenance, my actions and my life reflect it.
God loves me with an everlasting love and that is something to be very, very grateful for every stinkin’ day.
Do you really live in the truth that God loves you?
* I was blessed to hear Elyse Fitzpatrick’s three hour session on Counsel from the Cross this weekend. She mentioned the 123 times in Psalms gig. This post is from my notes and thoughts gleaned from this powerful teaching time.
